MT Data Bank
Every MT companies in India is always wondering about having the most extensive medical transcription professional database so that they can access it and choose a professional as per their requirement. Right now, whenever a company needs some MTs, they just post an ad in newspaper or contact a placement agency or go to some colleges to do some campus placement. Keeping these facts in mind, TGFY has decided to make an MT data bank that will store all the relevant data pertaining to medical transcription professional, viz., Name, Email, Phone Number, total work ex, present designation, city and their work status (full time or part time). This initiative cannot be achieved without the active participation of all the MT professionals across the country. The information stored in the data bank will be shared by anyone without the prior approval of the particular MTs so you should be assured about your privacy and confidentiality. I just request you to fill in your information in the form so that an efficient database can be made about all the MT professionals in India which will be further analyzed to see the forthcoming trends in MT industry in India.

Medical Transcription in India
Medical transcription industry is a booming industry in India. The current offshoring of medical transcription from India generates 195 million US dollars and is expected to be double by 2010.
The medical transcription industry started as a full-fledged industry in India during 195-97 and a lot of media attention was grabbed by this industry during this period. In fact, the term "BPO" was an unknown thing at that time but MT industry was teething in Bangalore and a to a less extent in Delhi and Mumbai. In fact, people were so excited with the great work opportunity in MT industry that a lot of people equipped with technical degrees also joined MT industry.
However, around 2000, the industry was going through a rather rough phase and the initial excitement about the MT industry was slowly fizzing out and the BPO industry started to become the latest buzzword among people. The MT industry again started to recover around 2004-05 and since then is continuing to grow strongly.
Here is an extract from the study conducted in MT industry in medical transcription industry by Research and Markets:
Today, the USD 195 million strong industry is silently supplying to the USD 12 billion medical transcription industry in the US. We have classified vendors into three primary groups:
Indian units of large US players - Typically comprise American companies or Medical Transcription Service Organizations (MTSOs) who have successfully set up their transcription centers in India. The large players include CBay, Spheris, Spryance, Acusis and Heartland. These large players account for almost 70 percent of Indian medical transcription offshoring revenues.
Mid-sized players - There are a number of medium sized players.

MT companies in India
Medical transcription first started in India somewhere in 1997 and 1998 as some bigger Us companies like Healthscribe (now Spheris) starting their business in Bangalore and Heartland in Delhi. Since then, MT industry has spread into all the major cities in India in slightly organized and mostly unorganized way.
MT industry started in India on a fairly high and optimistic note, but somewhere in 2004-2005, the industry started showing signs of decline, but in the last two to three years the industry is getting resurgent again with major players changing their leadership and strategies and getting more professional in their approach.
The following MT companies have stood on their own in testing times and have still been going strong and moving forward in the right direction:

Medical transcription is a relatively new industry in India which has peaked in the last five years. The industry is now attracting a lot of young enthusiast to pursue the industry as a full-fledged career.
One new technological advancement in this field is the preference for use of voice recognition engines (VRE) over the conventional use (MTs transcribing reports). A lot of discussion has been going on this subject that whether this will subject the MTs to face competition with the machine. The answer is still debatable and will remain debatable for years to come. In my perception, the VRE can never compete with a good MT because the best of VREs cannot create a report that is more than 80% accurate. So, after the report being transcribed by the VRE, it still has to be checked by an MT to make it deliverable.

According to the prediction of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), the industry's turnover is likely to touch Rs. 10,000 crores by 2008, providing employment to 1.60 lakh people.

should have a good knowledge of medical terms, pharmacology, anatomy, laboratory medicine, disease processes, and much more. He should to be able to transcribe a report and know enough about what is being dictated to be able to recognize strange, obscure medical terms, (or, more likely, to know which reference book to look through to find out how the obscure medical term is spelled). There are a lot of things that a medical transcriptionist should know in order to be good at their job. It simply isn't enough to memorize some medical terms and be a fast typist. The most important quality that an efficient medical transciptionist should have is that he should know how he should manage time. Typically in an eight-hour shift, an efficient MT should be able to transcribe 1000 lines with a minimum of 95% accuracy. This sounds a bit difficult, but is achievable and is being achieved by a lot of MTs across India. In fact, the first Rs. 20,000 per month barrier breaks once a MT is able to achieve this target.
